The music on Javi Cánovas’ 2012-release "Transfiguration" sees a return to the comfortable realm of the classic Berliner School style. The spatial (sometimes even restless and smoothly pumping) sequencing on the five extensive tracks is in optima forma as are the various synth pads, solo lines and mellotron textures kicking in and fading out so easily and nicely complimenting each other. The warm blanket of evocative sounds never fails to fascinate, which is due to Javi’s great musicianship and the variety of sonic elements thrown in and taken out of the bowl during the ride.
Personally, I’m most pleased by the long atmospheric intro and outro passages, and especially the ones featured on the title track. When it comes to full tracks, the (at times) darker flavoured but moody "The Slot" and the final piece "Projection" kick in best. Mr Cánovas already knew how to keep his listeners satisfied. The 72-minute "Transfiguration" makes no exception and is another winner.
