COSMIC GROUND
Cosmic Ground III
CD/LP/DIGITAL DOWNLOAD, Private Release, 2016

A thorough journey into analogue heartland would be a perfect subtitle for Cosmic Ground’s third album, offering a 71-minute outcome once more loaded with a wealth of warm retro textures and sequencers and just a few glimpse of melody.
"Ground Control" kicks things off with a myriad of minimal sequencer patterns that slow evolve in a complex, tantalizing manner. Then things shift into the very nicely moulded dense, mystic and slightly cinematic-oriented textural spheres of "Crumbling Darkness".
A boost of energy kicks in on "Keep us in Space", a great sparkling 18-minute exercise with a nice range of tight, pumping, rattling and in-your-face sequencers like on TD’s "Ricochet" backed by an evocative pallet of spacious and soaring vintage soundscapes. The energetic but also subdued aural narrative "Monochrome Ritual" concludes the album with various retro, slightly psychedelic-edged soundscapes along sound effects and strings of deep bass sequences.
With this very nicely rendered, mixed and produced result, Dirk Jan Müller equals the quality of his debut.
