ANDREW FORREST
Alchemy
CD, Private Release, 2002
The year 2002 saw the release of "Alchemy", Andrews first album after 4 years after finishing Star System Trilogy.

The album contains four long tracks all between 15 and 20 minutes and which heads a bit more towards New Age Music.
The first track starts with some pleasant piano before climbing into celestial heights.
Its symphonic impact made me think of Mychael Danna, Michael Stearns and even Michael Neil.
"Liquid Light" also has a nice piano start before smooth choirs fade accompanied by glissando guitar, building a heavenly soundscape.

The third track features violin, horn and flute, and is the most New Age to me, as only the last six minutes let the heavenly spheres in again.

The closing 20-minute track "Sacred Marriage" features quite some bamboo flute and Irish whistle, which I think doesn´t belong in these deft soundscapes. To me, "Alchemy" isn´t as strong as its predecessors due to its overall New Age nature.
