CRAIG PADILLA & SKIP MURPHY
CD-R, Space for Music, 2003
The two 30-minute pieces making up "Planetary Elements" happened live on the fly during two performances at the California’s Schreder Planetarium in 2002.
It sees both musicians sketch out expansive and varied aural canvasses where a mélange of Berlin School sequencing and lush cosmic atmospheres form the main course. Despite some flaws, an occasional thinner sound and a few slightly clashing moments, the outcome is rooted nicely in classic EM-tradition, following Padilla’s trademark of painting musical landscapes with a rich palette of infinite timbral complexity.
