Robert Scott Thompson – Poesis Athesis
CD, Lens Records, 2008

“Poesis Athesis” by composer Robert Scott Thompson is his debut release on Lens Records.
Robert and Chi Kung Master Terrence Dunn worked together in the mid-80’s, and contacted Thompson once again to compose music for his current series of video releases. Thompson composed the music to work specifically with the pace, mood and dynamics of the Flying Phoenix form of Chi Kung. The collaboration eventually spanned ten films and Thompson composed more than ten hours worth of music over a two year period.

The thirteen ambient tracks on “Poesis Athesis” provide a relaxed, moody atmosphere, of which the first two tracks made me think of the quiet works of Patrick O’Hearn.
The music on the album blends string textures, fine elements of electronica, ethnic percussion and even brings a personal homage to Erik Satie.

These 78 minutes form a warm blanket of sonic, at times even melancholic, sketches well suited for introspection, meditation or just to relax with.
