The progress I noted on Hans van Kroonenburg’s previous album “Andros Awakenings” has finally led to his first factory-pressed cd on a major Em-label: “Next Step in Evolution”.
Next to a much more structured style and some hints of Vangelis, the Berlin School-based outcome is characterized by a pleasant openness along a feel of easy going mellowness, a sphere emphasized by some moody guitar licks (played by Hans’ son Rik) on two pieces. Moreover, a gentle feel joie de vivre is shimmering throughout the whole album, most notably on “Ocean and Air Guitar” (also featuring dynamic guitar work shifting between Manuel Göttching and John Dyson) and the 17-minute “Coloured Glass Alternate” rounding out the release.
All music makes a strong and convincing statement so I’m confident more of such quality is forthcoming from this talented Dutch synthesist.
