Stormloop – Snowbound*
CD, Glacial Movements, 2011

“Stormloop” is an ambient project by one Kev Spence who hails from Leeds, England. “Snowbound*” (which found a home on Alessandro Tedeschi’s Italian label Glacial Movements) is a winter ambient release created in late december 2009. The original demo material though was created in 2005 and 2009. It consisted of approximately 15 tracks, but only five of them actually made it to this factory-pressed cd release.

The free form “Snowbound*” is filled with ten highly atmospheric and textural tracks created with soft as hardware synthesizers, the heavy modified sounds of electric guitars and the use of both Reason 6 and Logic Pro.

Imagine a landscape of vast drony fields, airy field recordings and soft environmental sound bits, all nicely evoking the authentic immersion, serene beauty and remoteness found in cold weather conditions and you graps what this collection of spacious sounding glacial and isolationist ambient is all about. At the same time, the slow morphing soundscapes of “Snowbound*” are a good example of quality ambient that especially does the trick when listened to late at night.
Nice going, Mr Spence.
