Nemesis – 1:4:9
CD-R, Retroduction, 2010

“1:4:9” is a digital download-only release by the Finnish trio Nemesis (the cd-version is a limited edition of 100 copies reserved for an art exhibition held in Finland in February 2010).
The album is a beautiful journey in introspective ambient spaces, described by the band as the perfect soundtrack for wintry evenings.

There are three long tracks, nicely kicked off by the smooth, slowly roaming atmospherics of the 24-minute “Nightmusic”. This string of quiet and evocative mood music occasionally reminded me of some of the contemplative musings of Michael Neil.
A soft glow shimmers through these reflective dreamworlds and soundscapes, which will easily put the mind at ease for an hour. Of all music, I’m especially fond of the symphonic realms and choir pads unfolding on part 3 and 4 of “Vanguard”.

All in all, “1:4:9” is free form background music with slightly mysterious undercurrents and curls embedded in the lyrical drone pads, an unhurried breathing space worth listening.
The digital download is available through the Planet Origo webshop in MP3 or Flac format.
