Peter Challoner – Abstract Ambient Form
CD-R, Private Release, 2005

I previously reviewed an ambient trilogy of this English composer, who’s freeform music I like a lot. “Abstract Ambient Form” contains six “Formations” featuring an ongoing flow of warm freeform textures.

Each of the compositions seem constantly evolving, but track 2 seems to be a bit lightweight and lingers too long for my taste.
On the other hand, I do love the smooth, lofty choirs used in the third track which beautifully interact with the broadening textural plains creating an almost heavenly atmosphere.
The sounds used in the fourth track are more shape-shifting in nature, the dosed use of effects is also more prominent. The fifth composition is also a slow wavering of shimmering soundscapes.

The soft swirling soundscapes of the 19-minute closing track feel like an uplift drift, very meditative in nature.
All in all, it’s a nice treat!
