The Nebula Project – In Search of Converging Sounds
CD, UFO Music Productions, 2008

The Nebula project is a collaboration of the US-based duo Dennis Young (bass and guitars) and Rick Coffee (synthesizers and guitars), who have been working together since the start of the ’80’s in various formulas.
According to the bands website, the music captured on “In Search of Converging Sounds” is “an improvisational, intergalactic, new age search for musical sounds reminiscent of matter in a chaotic universe trying to form into organized structures”.

Well, the guitar-oriented music sure has an overall improvised feel with its slightly jangling, repetitive and circling guitar sounds blending with synth textures. Together they form freeform spacious atmospheres most of the time that trigger the imagination, but not in a dreamy manner.
In addition, I’m not a fan of the frequent use of pitch control.

And although cosmic-based, I wouldn’t call it deep space music due to its psychedelic undercurrents, overall peculiar character and contrasting moods swings.
