Until now, every recording I’ve heard so far from music producer Jornt Elzing, aka Cat System Corp., has been an above-interesting sound trip into an alternate reality. With “Hiraeth the Ambient Works”, he harkens back and reflects on his ambient works compiled from various past releases from the early days. Over the past two years, Jornt collected and remixed these tracks for this new compilation. Here, listeners are drawn gently into and embraced by smooth, evolving dreamlike environments and futuristic spaces (or a so-called Utopian Jungle World) that incorporate ambient soundscapes with vaporwave’s nostalgic core. All tracks make up a nearly 40-minute off-world, occasionally almost soothing, lush and peaceful aural realm where the hectic, burdens and problems of our nowadays world have vaporized, while a sense of time also seems.
