“The Sacred Well” is a Best of compilation by American duo Pamela & Randy Copus, aka 2002, who at that time had released around six albums. Both sonically polished and attractively presented, this collection features twelve compositions, including two previously unreleased tracks, offering a representative overview of their highly accessible, easy-listening instrumental music. After just a few tracks, it becomes apparent that musical experimentation and risk-taking are not exactly priorities here. Warm, occasionally lightly symphonic textures are blended with atmospheric acoustic guitar, flute, and, at times, soulful, ethereal vocals that strongly evoke the sound of Enya and Clannad. The compositions are unmistakably dreamy and often rather saccharine, clearly designed to appeal to a broad audience. Nevertheless, they stop just short of sounding as flattened and recycled as some of the material Enya began releasing from her third album onwards. While hardly groundbreaking, 2002 offers a polished and accessible collection of melodic, atmospheric music that should appeal to listeners who appreciate the softer, more sentimental side of instrumental and new-age music. Verdict: between 2.5 and 3 stars. |
