This album marks the last chapter in Altus’ “Sidereal Cycle” series, rounding out the earth’s annual cycle with one more piece of immersive, highly contemplative ambient music.

This time though, Mike Carss used medieval composer Thomas Tallis’s “Spem in Alium” (a motet for 40 voices) as a starting point for a beautiful morphing 56-minute long-form composition (“Virgo”) in which the ethereal and smooth drift dissolve into timelessness. This final turn on time and the seasons features flowing pads, nicely accompanied by airy, soothing textures and gentle harp sounds.

It’s a most satisfying outcome and again a joy to listen to with headphones. The cinematic and tranquil journey spreads a pure sense of spirituality and reflection while staying down-to-earth.

All in all, “The Sidereal Cycle 4” (again available as free of charge download in 320kb MP3 and FLAC from the Free Floating Music netlabel) makes a very nice conclusion of the series.
