What I have here is a classic Em-release by Toronto-based composer Amin Bhatia, mixing classical styles with space and orchestral film music with obvious spacy effects on top. Its orchestral sound was created without the use of sound libraries or any sampled sounds, this as a gesture to orchestras. Instead, Mr Bhatia spent loads of time and attention layering hundreds of electronic parts to achieve the aimed warm, lush orchestral sound (same as Wendy Carlos and Tomita), painting a futuristic interstellar voyage before the mind’s eye. Most notably, there’s an homage to Tomita there due to lots of spinning stuff and the flange-y exploding kind of things that ended up in the sound design. The year 2003 saw a remaster of the album from a 2-track digital safety Amin had, which includes the orchestral-choral “Virus”, a hidden track that gave a hint to his next album “Virtuality”. Finally, a 25th anniversary edition of the recording came out in October 2021 along with a Blu-ray DVD with a 5.1 Dolby DTS mix and a Companion liner notes coffee table book. |
