Arrocata – Desert Electric
CD-R, Sonoran Winds Music, 2009

Some of the atmospheric soundscape tracks which Robert Straub aka Arrocata creates on “Desert Electric” are based on locations, legends and natural occurances that are indigeneous to the America’s raw Sonoran Southwest territory.

Moreover, these imaginary recordings present a series of adventurous compositions that feel like an actual journey through a desolate landscape, while trying to define a mood and continuously reveal new and subtle experiences each time it is played.

The outcome is textural ambient music with an edge, occasionally slightly hinting towards some Roach/Suspended Memories material but overall making up a sonic canvas demanding focussed headphone listening.
Of the seven pieces, the hallucinogenic “Shaman’s Tea” and the haunting flavours of “Voices in the Window” are the best efforts in my opinion.

“Desert Electric” is available as cd-r from CD Baby or as download from I-Tunes or Musiczeit.
