“Oneironaut” (referring to Oneironautics, the ability to travel within a dream on a conscious basis.) is an accessible, melodic release offering a brief conscious exploration into the always unexpected territory of dreams, a place where we are involuntary wanderers. Within the dream experience -which is unique to each human being- we all become paralyzed spectators to the most wonderful and also the most horrendous on a daily basis. The process of creating and finalizing the 75-minute recording was a lengthy one this time: it took composer Oscar Aguayo some six years as he learned the tough lesson he could only compose with honesty and being satisfied with the result when going through clearly defined emotions. There certainly are joyous, almost swinging moments found in the 16 emotionally charged tracks, whose sound design leans towards the cinematic/orchestral on and off. Still, the shadowy corners, quirky hooks and mysterious (under)currents embedded within are many. All in all, “Oneironaut” turns out a tad different from Australis’ previous releases but still makes an interesting listen. |
