Despite being around in the genre for a long time, I still stumble upon, often well hidden, recordings deserving mentioning/attention. “Natural High” fits into that category, a project released in 1983 by Japanese synthesist Yasuo Ogata and programmer Keita Miyahara, aka Axis. The 45-minute outcome, setting off with warm analogue synths along some traditional instruments (guitar, bass) as well as subtle percussion can best be described as Eastern -but also rather peculiar- relaxation music, but to that come various occasional progressive vibes. The latter is when the e-guitar steps up or starts soloing and drums kick in towards the second half of the recording. That said, one might link it slightly to some realm explored by Far East Family Band or early Kitaro, but the overall outcome keeps straying in a different sonic territory. |
