In the album’s booklet, musician Uwe Saher elaborates that the content of this album turns away quite a bit from traditional Berlin School. Instead, it focuses on minimalist sound design and layered repetitive sound structures featured on two 20-minute tracks and one 12-minute piece. As such, listening to and appreciating the outcome takes a bit more effort and patience than I anticipated, especially on the longer tracks where the shifting of sounds and layers happens in ongoing cycles, lasting a bit too long to my liking. The closing piece “Mantra” suits me better due to its uplifting, driving nature and (what seems) a bit less complex structure. Rating: between 3 and 3.5 stars |
