Constance Demby – Sacred Space Music

CD/Mc, Hearts of Space, 1982/1988

“Sacred Space Music”, the predecessor to Constance Demby’s acclaimed masterwork “Novus Magnificat”, surrounds and immerses its listeners in a comfortable sonic bath of soothing, serene melodies and ethereal, almost otherworldly ambiances.

Same as Constance’s other recordings, its sole spiritual intention is to inspire, uplift, and heal. No electronics are featured yet on this recording, which contains two 20-minute pieces: “The Longing” is made up of an enchanting blend of hammered dulcimer, piano, and viola, while hammered dulcimer, string synthesizer, and tinkling bells make up the tranquil, uplifting aural landscape of “Radiance”.

Still, this is (nicely done) spiritual new age music, not an electronic endeavour.

Overall verdict: between 3 and 3.5 stars.
