The five-track ambient-space release “To Sleep On Stellar Winds” sees a reunion of acclaimed US synthesist Craig Padilla and Richard J. Roberts (aka Zero Ohms) after a 12-year hiatus. It has resulted in an aural journey, which sees Mr. Padilla implement assorted bits and pieces of Berlin School modular electronics into the imaginary sonic scenery while Mr. Roberts (who passed away six weeks after the release of the album) is in charge of all wind instruments in there. Next to some ethereal and minimalistic movements, the focused listener can experience the subdued energetic vibes, uplifting currents as well as a sense of tranquility found in cosmic atmospheres and the galactic expanse. To sum it up, “To Sleep On Stellar Winds” is a 60-minute ticket for those who like to succumb a bit differently in the cosmic environs. My personal verdict: between 3 and 3.5 stars. |
