Cyber Zen Sound Engine & Matt Borghi – The Intercepted Transmissions
CD, N-Light Records, 2001

For their second cd, the duo CZSE have successfully worked together with Houston-based ambient composer and writer Matt Borghi.
The overall music gives a cinematic feel, which the composers themselves describe as “a sonic exploration of an emotional place”.

Well, they succeeded in achieving that: the album connects traditional elements of ambient and spacemusic, but also dares to step into some rather unknown territories of soundsculping and forging, although the three musicians haven’t left out traces of warmth, melancholy and even introspection along their long-distance collaboration.

Sometimes, the atmospheres linger a little towards Brian Eno or Michael Brook. The slowly shifting, unfolding soundworlds are sustained several times by dub-rhythms, somehow spreading a non-earthy feel here and there, but never closing without touching ground again.

A masterfull and fascinating piece of work that deserves my personal recommendation !
