The end of April 2025 saw the release of the seven-track “The Precious Dark”, an electronic ambient release constructed and shaped by accomplished, cinematic sound-maestro guitarist Mr Helpling and soundscaping synthesist Eric “the” Taylor (who both are also a member of the band Dark Sky Alliance). The emotive outcome is made up of lots of in-depth, broadening, and soft sparkling soundscapes along waves of warm synthetic textures, subtle percussion, and ambient guitar. A fascinating sense of drama is found in the first half of “The Ice has Dreams” before it melts away in another attentively crafted set of broadening pads. On the remaining tracks of the 62-minute release, the sense of captivating ambient space becomes more imminent, especially on “Her Endless Cold Embrace” and the highly emotive “For those in Shadow”. Rest me to say, this highly atmospheric, very well mixed and mastered album is spot on for every ambient aficionado and certainly deserves a thumbs up. Rating: between 3.5 and 4 stars. |
