While strolling through the collection, I stumbled upon “Open Book”, the fourth release by Denver, Colorado-based musician Davol Tedder, whose intriguing album “Mystic Waters” I came across in the late ‘80s. This debut album was followed by “Paradox”(1991) and “Nature of the Beast” (1992) on the same Silver Wave label, after which there was a period of radio silence that has finally been broken in surprising and beautiful fashion with this new release. “Open Book” once again contains a refreshing collection of cinematic-sounding tracks that carry only a hint of New Age, but in which striking rhythms and a positive feeling continue to sparkle. The warm sounds used are particularly noticeable in the piano and (transverse) flute parts, between which captivating soundscapes and varied rhythms move. I was regularly reminded of Patrick O’Hearn, for example, but Davol’s music takes a completely different (read: unique) direction. In terms of production, the music also sounds crystal clear. A beautiful musical statement that I wholeheartedly recommend giving a listen to. |
