The ambient journeys created by Mirko Ruckels, aka Deepspace, have always possessed a special touch, something that one could pinpoint as both spellbinding and riding the surreal edge. The lengthy ‘The Architecture of Flowers” features a total of 19 tracks of breath-like washes of sound, a 1 hour and 47 minute sound current of exploratory, slow shapeshifting atmospheric ambiences evoking liminal moods and spaciousness with intrinsic warmth. Here, the listener is drawn into amorphous, mesmerizing, and hypnotic realms that hang in the air and dwell effortlessly. In more than one way, I feel both the recording’s dreamful impact and overall quality (most notably the 17-minute opening piece along with the beautiful lingering “Pollen Cloud Formations”) surpasses quite some of the work Steve Roach has done in recent years. Rating: between 3.5 and 4 stars. |
