Fans of emotive drift-style ambient and serene wintry atmospheres should take notice of this 35-minute recording by multi-instrumentalist and composer Derrick Stembridge. A lush, wide expanse opens up on the 6 tracks, spreading a sonic perfume of loneliness, solitude and introspection as it unfolds. The textures of “Live to Tell” (a totally different take on Madonna’s hit) even reach for the heavens and the light. With its soaring pads and occasional piano bits, this music cools off the mind, sketching out evocative realms out of cold environs that prove peaceful, nourishing, hopeful for mind and soul. That brighter, promising tone also radiates from the album’s title track found at the end. All in all, one best take in this recording in one sitting. |
