Capturing cold weather conditions and the beauty of frozen landscapes and transforming them into captivating sonic scenery has always been one of the strongholds of Erik Wøllo’s work. On the 10-track/55-minute “Snow Tides”, the sounds of synthesizers and guitar shake hands in a beautiful and complementary manner, painting the reflective serenity, coolness, and majestic atmospheres of winter in the composer’s homeland, Norway. Here, slow rhythms merge with gentle yet warm chord progressions and melodic lines, occasionally to an elevating and dreamy effect. Wøllo-aficionados can’t go wrong with another well-accomplished release of emotive, imaginative, and in-depth ambient spaces. Rating: between 3.5 and 4 stars. |
