Galactic Sound Station – Music for the Mental Health of Astronauts (Volume 1)

Digital Download, Private Release, 2025

Galactic Sound Station is an internationally oriented, UK-based space music collective that’s been in the works for several years. I heard about it in early 2023 through US-synthesist Terminus Void, one of the participants as well as co-producer of the project, along with renowned musicians such as Hollan Holmes, Dreamstate Logic, Terminus Void, Dreamscapist, and Dunes of IO.

The essence of the collective’s music intertwines with a scientific project led by Dr Patrick Stacey in the UK, focusing on the mental health of astronauts. Its innovative approach has garnered attention in various press outlets as well as the BBC, and is part of an ongoing research initiative. It aims to be an auditory journey that supports mental wellness in extreme environments, such as space.

The ten-track result makes up some 73 minutes of beautifully created, smooth, soaring, and uplifting space-ambient soundscapes, making up a compelling canvas of soft, glowing sonic vistas and enchanting, warm textural landscapes. One can’t deny there’s a lot to like here for fans of the genre (although I’m personally not that keen on Dunes of IO’s style). I dig the gentle dwelling, elevating realms, and lightness embedded in the music, especially on the contributions by Hollan Holmes and Terminus Void. The latter, as well as  Dreamscape Logic’s track “Memories of Home”, contains some lovely hints of Vangelis. Nice one!
