“S.W.I.M.” is the debut of Icelandic musician Gunnar Jónsson Collider on A Strangely Isolated Place with an expansive trip through six fictional environments. We are talking about soundscape music with a slight experimental as well as organic edge, lush meandering ambient musings featuring subtle changes in tone and texture as each scenic expanse evolves gradually. On the 11-minute “Environment 3” the textural drift even culminates to subdued splendor, though in minimalist, serene, and hypnotizing form (as well as on the slightly distorted sounding “Environment 5”). The release winds down gently with the spacious, serene pads making up the 11-minute “Environment 6”. |
