Those familiar with and/or enjoying Mr. Boddy’s and Mr. Wøllo’s previous collaborative albums “Meridian” and “Revolve” will find some interesting reimagined and revisited versions of tracks from each of them on “Transmission”. The latter chronicles their concert at the Capstone Theatre in Liverpool in April 2024, offering one hour of atmospheric yet evocative ambient-electronic music where Erik’s soaring guitar (that’s turning out quite Göttching-like occasionally) complements and merges with Ian’s creative modular synth work. The result is varied and moody, kicking off with the malevolent “Uncharted”, followed by the Krautrock-ish “Abeona”. A bit later, there’s the Ashra-like “Colony” and the chilling “Ice Station” while the alternate version of “Revolve” turns out groovy and tactile, not forgetting the powerful finale “Apogee”. |
