Ian Boddy – Liverdelphia
CD/DIGITAL DOWNLOAD, DiN, 2013

At first glance, I agree this is an odd name for an album, but it makes more sense when one knows this cd comprises parts of Ian’s live performances in Autumn 2012 in both Liverpool and (across the big pond) Philadelphia.

Moreover, the contemporary, the cosmic and a sense of sonic adventure form the alchemy on the 75-minute “Liverdelphia”, blending complex patterns, catchy rhythms and spherical pads with morphing sequencers. Overall, it’s accessible and melodic music what Ian offers here, dressed with beautiful vintage choirs, soft soaring solo voices and warm moog sounds.

The symphonic element of Boddy’s music comes to life on the grand Overture”, while the atmospheric side surfaces on e.g. “Driftwood” and “The Long Road”. The release also contains a nice Mp4 video with concert footage along fractal imagery.
Overall, “Liverdelphia” makes a most enjoyable recording.
