“The Incident” sees the return of German audio designer Gerald Arend, aka Klangwelt, to the scene of electronic music after a pause of over a decade. The 79-minute result is a fresh vibrant and rather technical sounding display of contemporary electronic sounds and beautifully rendered textures. Still present are Klangwelt’s characteristic melodic flavour, catchy sequencer patterns along a cinematic veil dressed gently over it. On top of that, the range of applied sounds, pads and exotic colours is large and surprising while Gerald’s open, detailed sound design and expert mastering put the icing on the cake here. I rate “Evocation”, “Time Freeze II”, “Aftermath” and “Neon Tribes” among the strongest pieces and personal favourites of this well-accomplished release filled with charming contrasts. Recommended. |
