As an accomplished synthesist, Jean-Luc Briançon loves to dig into the sonic possibilities of newly built and developed electronic instruments. For “Timeless Winds”, he chose to compose classic synth music in the tradition Jarre, Schulze and Wendy Carlos, sticking to the SynthR4 and SynthR3 Paraphonic semi-modulars, delivering a work in five movements (“The SynthRphony”) that celebrates cosmic electronic music with tasty sequencing and an assortment of warm synth pads. The 42-minute outcome is a kind of time travel revisiting as well as celebrating the sonic magic created in those early days with accessible, melodic synth music. Nice going, Jean-Luc.
