Mike Carss started this series of albums under the Altus moniker back in 2007 with the first volume entitled “Singulus”. By whatever reason, it now continues under the Loneward banner, offering a batch of eight atmospheric soundscapes -of which five are previously unreleased- composed between 2020 and 2024. Three of them were meant for the 2023 recording “Willoweald”, which all turned out different as what the composer aimed for.

Calmness, introspection, loneliness as well as a couple of sombre and melancholic vibes make up the sound palette found across the 58-minute ambient recording. The final piece, “Noctilucent”, is the best piece as far as I’m concerned, a quite heartwarming and lush textural landscape drifting onward on gentle waves.
