The recent passing of composer Mark Dwane on July 24, 2025, made me revisit his album “Angels, Aliens and Archetypes”. During his career, Mr. Dwane created virtually all of his music using his guitar synthesizer setup, without the use of any synthesizers, and the result on his second effort is another fine example of strong melodic lines, merged with elements of drama and grandeur. Despite being inspired by science fiction (themes), the music featured on the nine tracks -while uplifting and soaring- isn’t typical space music due to its gentle, groovy vibe. Some passages and atmospheres on the more rhythmic, up-tempo constructed recording don’t stray far from Patrick O’Hearn’s first albums. The 44-minute album rounds out with “Lights in the Clouds”, a smooth cosmic floater. Later on, Mark Dwane would put out a remastered version of the album on CD-R and download. |
