Mikkel Rev is the alias of Norwegian music producer Mikkel Haraldstad who presents a melange of contemporary electronics, trance, and ambient on “The Art of Levitation”, as such moving through different moods and tempos. The pads used, in the 12-minute title piece especially, remind a lot of those used in German electronic music and Robert Schröder in particular. After the first five calm, rather chill ambient tracks with minimal vibes there’s a shift to a trio of a tad more energetic, spatial chill-out trips featured on “Regret” and beat-driven “Sub Sea (Peace Mix)” and “Insula”. Spacey, ambient realms though settle down again on the final pieces “Leave (outro)” and reflective, time-altering “Nothing So Hidden” (the latter reminds quite a bit of Global Communication). |
