Miktek – Anisotropy

CD/Digital Download, Abstrakt Reflections, 2011

Greek producer Mihalis Aikaterinis is the musician behind Miktek, a project founded in 2006. My interest in his earlier work was recently rekindled after rediscovering some of his excellent collaborations with Aes Dana and his release on the Ultimae label.

Across the 78-minute “Anisotropy”, Miktek navigates a diverse range of electronic territories, blending slow-paced IDM with occasional robotic rhythms and beats. His sound design is spacious, transparent and distinctly futuristic, creating an immersive sonic landscape that balances intricate electronic textures with a subtle downtempo sensibility. Beneath these carefully constructed soundscapes, ambient layers evoke a sense of desolation and subdued melancholy, adding depth and emotional resonance to the music.

Despite its continuous exploration of different sonic environments, Anisotropy maintains a remarkable sense of cohesion and balance. Its 15 imagined tracks span a broad spectrum of electronic music, yet flow together seamlessly, forming a unified and carefully considered listening experience. The album’s strength lies in the way Miktek combines stylistic diversity with a consistent atmospheric identity, resulting in a work that feels both exploratory and remarkably coherent.

The release is available as a free download.
