Open Canvas – Nomadic Impressions

CD/Digital Download, Groove Unlimited/Waveform Records, 1998

Groove Unlimited’s last album release from 1997 is credited to Open Canvas, about whom the (admittedly beautiful) CD cover provides no information. Enquiries, back then, at Groove HQ revealed that none other than Mr. Alpha Wave Movement is behind it. And if you listen to the CD, you could have guessed that: beautiful, light ambient soundscapes along a few electro-tribal trips are combined this time with (mostly tabla-like) percussion from the Eastern territory and sampled sounds from those regions, giving the album as a whole an ethnic yet extremely inviting atmosphere.

All in all, “Nomadic Impressions” is a wonderfully relaxing record that takes you on an hour-long ancient, cross-cultural journey to middle Eastern-tinged regions and desert vistas, for which the cover art provides the first hint.

The album was also released by Waveform Records in the same year with a different cover.
