The calm yet tender unfolding music making up Owann’s “Saga” seem kind of observations to my ears, they make the listener’s mind drift into imaginary, distant lands. Composer Johan De Paepe refers to the outcome as stories where music meets environment sounds. The spacious ambient created here is an attentively moulded 64-minute canvas of floating, spatial and pastel colours merged with emotive currents incorporating dreamy, introspective as well as floating soundscapes. On the 20-minute “Tár”, my personal highlight on the recording, Mr De Paepe elevates all these elements to a higher, most enchanting and almost immersive level. I’d say this well accomplished release is recommended to all looking for an inner sanctum existing far away from nowadays turmoil as well as those wanting to inhale the beauty and power of stillness. Johan also released the music on a cd-r, which is only available with the same titled 78-page book featuring photographs by Owann. |
