The list of releases by this English musician is becoming lengthy by now, which isn’t a bad thing as until now there always has been sufficient weight and fine atmospheric content found in each of them. The two hour “A Perceived View” consists of two extended tracks recorded live in the studio for Morphic Resonance 74 and Nicks International Virtual Garage. Broadening, cosmic, mysterious textures and deep soundscapes with a cinematic edge make up the core of Mr Thompson’s intriguing sonic creations, elevating the ambient listener in no time to higher, wondrous realms beyond. Lush darkening as well as a few rather soothing atmospheres, an occasional sequence or melody and their shifting intensities are all building slowly as we wander through outer space with no horizon in sight. This time though I think the length of both pieces should have been shortened a bit while maintaining their impact. As with Phobos previous albums, make sure you take all this in with quality headphones to get the best out of this tasty ambient space music. Rating: 3.5- stars |
