Radio Massacre International – Organ Harvest

CD/Digital Download, Centaur Records, 1997

Since they started out, the recordings by UK-trio Radio Massacre International defy categorization as their music is, first and foremost, improvisational.

“Organ Harvest” hit the streets at the band’s most prestigious performance back to date, the Dutch KLEM dag festival 1997. Same as on their previous recordings, there’s a whole load of mellotron presented here along assorted electronics, bits of e-guitar, and sequencers. This time, though, the album consists of six shorter, more structured, and a bit more composed pieces, all evoking an overall relaxed, gentle, spaced-out mood and spheres. The two-part title piece stands out next to “Edison” and “Rainy Day Song”.

Together with their previous releases, “Organ Harvest” makes another solid and satisfying recording from the band.

Verdict: between 3.5 and 4 stars.
