Same as their fine debut “Futuregate”, their second collaborative work “Voyager” continues nicely in the footsteps of the Berlin School style of Klaus Schulze while being strongly influenced by the available technology as well as gained experience over the years. Aside from that, I’m sure the duo’s own activity as semi-astronomers also played an important part in the creative process of this well-made, cinematic-like follow-up. Well, the Oldenburg-based musicians Gerd Wienekamp and Frank Specht again merch the aforementioned style with a healthy dose of freshness, environmental recordings, melodic lines, vibrant soundscapes as well as an infectious dynamic current on the three lengthy sections, all tickling the ears from start to finish. Again, the sequenced parts are tantalizing aside from an excellent sound design and mastering (as well as a nice brief nod towards Schulze’s “Body Love II” in the second section). I will never grow old of this (still) great, versatile recording. Well done, guys. A re-release of the album with a different cover on SynGate in 2006 contains two extra tracks made in that same year.
