The content of “Ether” sees Mark Shreeve (now accompanied by his brother Julian Shreeve and James Goddard) continue where they left us with the strong debut album (that was essentially a Mark Shreeve solo recording). Here we find two live tracks done at the Jodrell Bank Planetarium in 1996, along with two studio pieces, all merging spaced-out soundscapes with heavy sequencers, remembering the retro sounds of TD’s “Rubicon”, “Phaedra”, and “Ricochet“ period. Symphonic bombast and progressive/psychedelic electronics shake hands here firmly, with the progressive touch added by some electric guitar. For me, it was a no-brainer to get my hands on a (now sought-after) hardcopy of the album back in the day… |
