I have no clue why Mark Shreeve waited almost two years to release this album, which contains the almost complete set they played live on stage at E-Live 2004 (an event) that, together with E-Day, proves electronic music is still alive and kicking to this very day. Redshift doesn’t need an introduction, as their output remains rooted in and inspired by TD’s vintage Berlin School sound (so no surprises there), blending powerful and pulsating sequences with hallucinatory ambient and occasionally darker/gothic-spiced soundscaping. The closing title track, “Glide”, and opener “Stuka” -also the longest exercises on the 5-piece album- are the energetic, heavier outings here with Mark’s rattling sequencer patterns paired with assorted retro pads. Here, building intrinsic and extravert intensity is key. The track “Toll” incorporates some psychedelic as well as post-rock (guitar) elements, while “Cast Down” and “Rock” wander in In my opinion, this release isn’t as strong and consistent as other Redshift recordings: I rate it between 3 and 3.5 stars. |
