Richard Bone – Saiyuji
CD, Quirkworks Laboratory Discs, 2005

The press sheet states that “Saiyuji” (meaning Dawn), named after the ancient Buddhist temple in Singapore, is the last part of the trilogy begun with “Disorient” and “The Reality Temples”.

Bone explains that the foundations of each track were created and shaped on vintage gear, and later some melody and world beat inspired rhythms were added.

But, again, the nine tracks mingle melody and rhythm in a twisted, extraordinary manner, similarly to his former albums. This is best heard on the title track, consisting of (Basuri?) flute, world rhythm and Balinese soundscapes. “Vagabond Messiah” is a very nice world beat track offering lots of different elements dressed with warm inviting atmospheres.

After hearing this album I confirm the music of Mr Bone remains both exceptional and extraordinary in the world of electro-acoustic music, which pays a visit to world music and atmospheric pop.

I think it would be wise to check out some sound bites to better understand what I mean.
The cd also contains two ambient video’s at the end.
