Here’s another beautifully crafted album in the long line of atmospheric ambient music that American Robert Carty already has to his name. “Midnight Rainbows” is a subdued album of some 67 minutes, divided into eight longer tracks that again can be categorised in the genre of strongly cosmic-tinged music. Standouts are the opening piece, ”Near that Place”, the hushed “Windswept Vista”, and the closing (title) piece. These all make prime examples of quietly rumbling, non-rhythmic soundscapes in which occasional soft flute sounds or an atmospheric contribution pop up as you drift along on beautiful synth sounds. Occasionally, though, the music seems to nod off slightly and descend into some formlessness. All in all, it’s a nice continuation in Carty’s style that works especially well when enjoyed in the evening. Meanwhile, the release is available as a free download. |
