This recording is a kind of re-release of the eponymous older cassette album from Rich’s early days, 1988 to be exact, during which Robert gave his glorious “sleep concerts”. From more than two hours of material, Robert has filtered, lightly reworked, and remastered the strongest passages, resulting in this thick 70-minute, extremely laid-back, elongated ethereal-ambient sound trip. All typical Rich-elements (e.g., the elongated, floaty flute sounds) are woven into the soundscape fabric, rounded off with a distinctive, unsteady, sometimes slightly oppressive, melancholic atmosphere. All in all, an album that in itself is not so easy on the hand, yet for experienced ambient and Rich fans passes as somewhat obligatory fare. |
