Robert Schroeder – D.MO Vol. 2
CD, Spheric Music, 2008

Back in 1998, Cue Records released volume 1 in this series of unreleased original recordings 1978-1982, and I remember that one sounded and looked rather amateurish.

February 2008 saw the release of “D.MO Vol. 2”, which sticks to unreleased original music from 1980, 1981 and 1983, all mostly composed on Robert’s self-built electronic instruments.

This time we get 70 minutes of more mature music which shows the rough contours and characteristics of the music he would later lay down on his albums.
There are e.g. two nice themes of the Nomads-Project that was planned at that time, but also the moody, nicely seqenced “Starlights” or the soft lingering spherics of “Wired Systems”.
More or less, there’s always this groovy, rhyhmic element which gives his music an extra vibe (which later on would even lead to a couple of remixed version on maxi-single).

All in all, this is a recommended release for anyone who loves to revisit the sound of the early 80’s analogue days.
