With “Elysium”, the likeable German ex-Solitaire musician Rüdiger Gleisberg has arrived at his fourth solo album, in which his typical classical background is once again audible. The hour-long album contains 13 pieces, in which the symphonic character is more prominent than before. In addition to the characteristic light minimalist structures from his work, the quiet symphonic pieces contain piano (the piano part in “Open Spaces” is even very reminiscent of “Tubular Bells”), flute and string sounds, sometimes culminating in an engaging dreamy, sensitive atmosphere (of which the beautiful “Flowers in my Mind”, “Morpheus”, “Magic Theatre in my Head” and the two-part “Sense & Sensibility” are good examples). The title track, on the other hand, has a strong baroque/classical feel, as does a track like “Plants of Paradise”. Rudiger wrote all the compositions himself and once again did an excellent job of mixing and producing the album. Rating: between 3 and 3.5 stars. |
