What I got here is Simon Lomax’s 15th album to date, which the artist refers to as another passage through time and emotion. To the outcome of the 48-minute “Together, We Are Never Far From Home”, Simon elaborates that it explores enduring human themes: love, estrangement, and the bonds that connect us. Well, listeners travel the quiet, introspective lane of ambient textures, gradual unfolding currents, and shapes all created by processed guitar and assorted gear. These are dressed occasionally by fitting environmental soundings, like in the opening track. Moreover, shades of desolation and melancholy are entwined delicately with each other while a subdued glow and ethereal vibes surface off and on in the lush enveloping, gentle morphing sound design. “Shimmering Above”, the title piece, “Aching and Longing”, and the closing piece are fine definitions of this, echoing Mr. Lomax’s ongoing search for agelessness and timelessness through his works. |
