With this atmospheric, almost cinematic album, skilled composer Hans van Kroonenburg has outdone himself another time. “Waves of Water” features some 72 minutes of very well-rendered sequencer-driven Berliner School music with occasional hints of classic Teutonic electronics, all unfolding meticulously before the listeners ear. Warm synthetic sounds and textures are all over the place here, caressing mind and soul in a most pleasant manner. This applies especially to “Wave 3 – Blacksea crossing”. There’s lots of depth and magical space along deep bass lines floating around on this release, something becoming even more evident when cherishing the lengthy, slow-progressing, gently sparkling compositions with quality headphones or through a high-end audio set. The combo of piano and evocative retro electronics found on the final track “Wave 5 – Mediterranean Dreams” also proves perfect and moody with great emotive undercurrents. What a beauty, Hans! Rating: between 4 and 4.5 stars. |
